Two sources, split by zoom level — both genuinely on screen depending on how far in you are

Satellite mode uses TWO imagery sources together, not one: zoomed out, you are looking at the federal USGS imagery below; zoom in past a certain point and Wake County’s own sharper 2025 imagery takes over seamlessly. Both entries below name a real source that is genuinely on screen at some zoom level — neither is a fallback shown "just in case."

Wake County GIS — Imagery 2025, served via a PlanGen reprojection proxy (near zoom)

This imagery is Wake County’s own 2025 aerial flights — but it is NOT served directly by Wake County to your browser. Wake publishes this imagery in a tile grid (NC state-plane feet) that web maps cannot read directly, so PlanGen’s own backend fetches Wake’s tiles and re-projects them, tile by tile, into the format this map needs, before serving them to you. CC BY 4.0 explicitly permits this kind of adaptation, with attribution — the credit above. Wake County advertises approximately 3-inch resolution for this imagery; PlanGen has not independently verified the positional accuracy of these tiles. Shown once you zoom in close enough (roughly the last few zoom levels) — Wake’s own tile service does not cover the whole zoom range, so this imagery only takes over near the property, never at a wide/regional view.

U.S. Geological Survey — USGS Imagery Only, cached tiles (far zoom)

Public domain; no attribution is legally required, and the credit is a courtesy. USGS publishes this imagery program at approximately 60cm–1m resolution; PlanGen has not independently verified the positional accuracy of these tiles. This imagery is coarser than Wake’s imagery above, and is the imagery actually shown at a zoomed-out/regional view, underneath Wake’s sharper imagery once you zoom in.

Data reflects annual aerial photography on a 4-year rolling update cycle and is not a depiction of current conditions. Provided without warranty as to completeness, accuracy, timeliness, or content. This source carries no named open license (the publisher lists its license as "custom"; the only stated terms are the Open Raleigh Data Policy). PlanGen displays this data to customers under an owner rights determination recorded 2026-08-25; display here is a credit to the source, not a claim of any named license, and this product does not offer bulk redistribution of the data. Building height on any footprint shown is always an assumed estimate (19 ft), never a recorded measurement — no story-count field exists in the records this product retrieves.
